St Giles Hospice, Whitington, Litchfield
A major new extension to the existing hospice, developing a 27-bedded unit and using the released space to integrate an education facility. The starting point for the design was the new bedroom layout concentrating on space for nursing staff and giving patients their own private bathrooms. Patient dignity and sense of ownership is fostered by the design. The concept for the scheme is a stand alone building facing the existing hospice on one side creating an enclosed garden giving privacy and shelter, whilst the other side faces the green belt giving patients views and sunlight to the bedroom areas.
